Aiming for better, not perfect

As somebody who’s been in the fitness industry for over 18 years, I understand the desire to take big action when you’re motivated to improve your health & fitness. If you can keep it up, go for it, but if you’ve had trouble sticking with it in the past, I would recommend smaller actions that are more sustainable.

Aim for BETTER, not PERFECT with your goals.

Participating in Dry January is great for your body, but if it sounds too difficult, aim for a Drier January instead. A few less drinks than you would normally have during the week is BETTER.

Doing an hour long workout every day sounds like it’ll get you to your fitness goals fast, but for most working people (especially parents), that’s really tough to accomplish. It may make more sense to aim for 1 workout a week with short walks on most of the other days. Then swap more walks for workouts as is becomes easier to manage as a part of your week.

Think about movements & healthy meals like you would adding money to a savings account: every little bit helps and something is BETTER than nothing. Sure, you’ll reach your goals faster with bigger & more frequent contributions, but even the smallest additions help move you closer to your goals.

You’ve got this.

Happy 2023, everybody!

Suggestions:

  • A short walk most days of the week.

  • Have at least 1 vegetable minimum each day.

  • Cook a meal instead of dining out.

  • Drink 1 glass of water before you hit the caffeine.

  • Try 1 new workout this month to find something you like.
